Tenants at a Fairfield seniors’ complex are enjoying a new sense of community with parties, coffee chats and holiday meals at their building thanks to a partnership between a Vancouver-based group and the Greater Victoria Housing Society.
Jenny Konkin, president and co-founder of Whole Way House, said her organization began working with the housing society, which runs Campbell Lodge on Collinson Street, about 18 months ago thanks to financial backing from Victoria’s Lapis Homes.
She said the company’s Ryan Jabs heard her speaking about Whole Way House on a podcast and decided to offer his support, which paid for staff to be on-onsite at the building three days a week to set up a range of activities for residents.
The group’s mandate is to provide community-building programs and tenant services to low-income seniors, veterans and people with disabilities, something Konkin said is accomplished by joining with non-profit landlords.”
